The winning Christmas cake made by Anne, cook at Barrogil House

Barrogil House residents and staff are basking in the glory of winning both of the Kingdom Homes inter-home Christmas themed competitions this year. Their entries won both the cake decorating competition and the best decorated home award. Runners-up in the cake competition were Camilla House and Craigie House. Runners up in the decoration competition were Craigie House in Crossgates and Fernlea House in Cardenden.

Baked by Anne Lindsay, Barrogil House cook, the cake was a traditional Christmas cake mixture and was truly spectacular. All of the decorations were hand made by Anne including the elf and the santa, which were made from marzipan and they alone took Anne over three hours to make in her own time.

The competitions were judged by a panel of residents made up from the organisations care homes who spent the day travelling between the seven homes in one of the company's minibuses. Coffee and biscuits were provided by Methven House in Kirkcaldy and Camilla House in Auchtertool whilst a delicious lunch was hosted by Preston House in Glenrothes giving the judges the opportunity to mingle with other homes residents. "This was a wee bit of festive fun" said Methven House's judging panel representative, Anne Anderson, "with choosing the winner quite literally the icing on the cake."

Paula Paterson, the activities co-ordinator from Methven House, accompanied the judging panel round the homes and said "The day was a great success and it was fun seeing just how competitive the Homes could be. It was lovely to see just how much effort everyone has made and to see how much pride everyone has in their own Home. In my opinion everyone was a winner and we should be really proud of ourselves.

I think social activities between homes are of vital importance to our activities programme and to our residents. Not only does it enhance individual social skills but it promotes self awareness and self-esteem. Inter-homes activities are extremely beneficial to our homes as a whole by giving us the chance to integrate with the other homes within the company. Social activities between homes are also great fun and Kingdom Homes Limited as a whole will do everything we can to promote this."
